This is my 30th year of teaching art, wow, that's a crazy concept. I taught for 3 years for the East Butler Public School system in a k-12 school setting. Then I got a job at Pound Middle School where I taught for 15 years, then moved to Goodrich Middle School in 2002. I love my job and I love my students. One of my personal and professional goals is to allow my students to see me as not only their teacher but as an artist. I bring in artwork to the classrooom frequently to show and tell and I model how I generate ideas and sketches and how artists often improvise and change from their original plans as they work on an art piece. I find my students value my opinion more when they see my own art and my own creativity.
I used Andy Warhol's style of painting to do this acrylic painting (above) of my daughter. I teach this technique to my students. These are other portraits I have painted from photos of people:
Below are some of my acrylic paintings, I really like working with grids and value (changing darks and light), I like the flickering dark and light effect.
